'cause he's coming from Abruzzi, for Onidala to day is a special day, a day of jubilee for his country, due to the fact that after the election of July 5, 1294 by the College of Cardinals, gathered by long time in Perugia in vacant Holy See, and the acceptance by Pietro Angelerio, elderly hermit dwelling on Monte Morrone near Sulmona, and after the procession leaded the holy man from Sulmona to L'Aquila, the place chosen by him for the ceremony on August 29, 1294, in presence of Charles of Angiò and Charles Martell, of the Cardinals and a huge crowd of the faithful, Peter was crowned with the name of Pope Celestine V.
In this same occasion, the new pope wanted to give the people of believers the gift of an indulgence, than a month later, on 29 September of 1294, while the papal court still resided in L'Aquila, made official with a writing privilege, in the form of "littera gratiosa", the "Inter sanctum solemnia.
Every year, the faithful remember that day with a week celebration, culminating with the opening of Holy Door of Basilica by the Cardinal Archbishop on 28 August and the lock of Holy Door on 29 August. The key of the Holy Door, the Papal Bull are carried from town hall to Basilica by a procession, and tha Papal bull are exposed for a day in Basilica.
