I arrive to meet Barerose at the gate, wearing the simple black habit of a nun. I smile, and briefly take him by both his hands. "Come, I will show you around."
I show Barerose the grounds of the abbey - the flowers are still new and the ground not fully set, but once done it will be a gorgeous lawn with trees for shade, and occasional benches for meditation and discussion. At the center of the area is a tall and beautiful statue for Michael, the Archangel of Justice. To the side is the main building, with the chapel, as well as administrative areas and halls for novices, and a lightly built wonder of architecture, a slender and beautiful structure, the infirmary. Close to the gate but within the abbey walls, which are thick and tall and clearly intended for defense rather than mere privacy, is a copse of woods surrounding a natural spring. A few small wooden slightly curved huts surround the spring, as if embracing it.
"Welcome to Mauchline," I tell Barerose, clearly happy and proud of how the abbey turned out.
